Isobel Wylie Hutchinson was a real person
She came from Scotland and spent most of her life exploring around the Arctic. She travelled to Greenland, Alaska and Iceland, mostly by herself, to collect plants and learn about people.
In 1925 she walked around Iceland, although because she didn't have a guide or very good maps, she got lost A LOT.
